Pendleton Rhythm of the Land Blanket by Susan Point

Product Description
This blanket grew from a design created for a memorial ceremony for Susan Points mother. Although the memorial blanket is a non-commercial endeavor interest in the image let to the creation of this beautiful blanket with a different design and new colors. The imagery is inspired by the many rafting trips that Susan and her family have made to the Taku River with The River League which is an eco-tourism company based in Vancouve, B.C.. The Taku River flows from Alaska through to northern British Columbia. The river is teaming with life.
Susan has had many spiritual experiences on the Taku including a close encounter with a grizzly bear and a chance to see what she fondly refers to as The Spirit of the Taku; a completely white large bald eagle. The image draws on a traditional Salish weaving design, echoing the constant movement of the river. The design flows through the form of the eagle itself, drawing our attention to the connections between the eagle and the his environment. Within the wings of the eagle there are two salmon heads often depicted in pairs for good luck. This image reminds us that we all are linked, both to our environment and to all the living creatures that share it.
