Product Description

The officially-licensed Smokey Bear Throw which celebrates the folklore of Smokey Bear and conveys a lasting message in fire prevention. Inspired by an organized crew of Mescalero Apache firefighters whose first assignment off the reservation was to battle the fire at Capitan Gap, New Mexico where the orphaned cub was found among the scorched trees. He became the living representation of Smokey Bear, the fire prevention symbol used by the U.S. Forest Service. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Smokey Bear Throw, is given to the U.S.D.A. Forest Service to generate funds to further nationwide fire prevention activities. The design of the Smokey Bear Throw is based on a Navajo pictorial with sections of the blanket filled with Smokeys friends - a fish, a deer, a butterfly, an Indian girl and a boy in cowboy garb. Other images represent fire prevention and the center space is occupied by Smokey.
